Project context
The project began with a direct need: it was difficult to find tea whose quality and packaging met younger consumers’ expectations. We decided to create a product for design-conscious consumers and everyday gifting, adding another choice to the market.
The packaging takes an industrial direction and starts by deconstructing the name Tieguanyin, making the name itself the core of its visual expression. I conducted around 20 exploratory interviews alongside competitor and price-band research to inform the audience, product specifications, packaging and sales channels. I connected tea selection, packaging design, costing, supplier communication and sampling to turn the proposal into a physical product.
The project contacted more than 30 tea, packaging and manufacturing suppliers and negotiated the packaging minimum order to 100 sets. Production addressed colour, material feel and differences between samples and final packaging. An initial WeChat presale indicated that the product met consumer expectations, although some buyers did not fully perceive the quality of the higher-grade tea. Tea selection and pricing are being revised for a broader launch. Purchase rates for the revised product, taste preferences and repeat-purchase intent remain to be tested.
